Farm to Needle Tour
May 20/11:30 am - 4:00 pm$40 – $45
The tour starts at the Olson Family Farm in Greenacres, Washington. We will visit the hobby farm where the Olson family live with their sheep, alpacas, chickens, goats, and ducks. Janette, a local shearer, will be there to shear their two alpacas.
After shearing, we will travel to Fibers First Mill in Post Falls, Idaho. This functioning fiber mill with turn of the century equipment is a gem in our community. Farmers from all around the surrounding area bring their fiber to the mill to be carded, spun, and turned in to yarn or roving. These machines are beautiful and historic and work just as well now as they did 70 years ago. We will see these machines in action and tour the process of creating yarn from fiber.
The last stop on our tour will be at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center in Post Falls. We will talk about the different ways to naturally dye fiber from food and plants, watch yarn being spun by hand on a spinning wheel and discuss the various ways wool and fiber are part of our local community.
Space is limited to 20 people. Attendees must be 18 or older. Pre-paid tickets only. THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT!
